The inquiry processed an exceptionally large scene spanning the hotel and festival grounds, reviewed video and electronic records, traced weapons and finances, and interviewed hundreds of witnesses. Separate after-action work assessed multiagency command, communications, medical triage, self-evacuation, and reunification.
Legal accountability
The perpetrator died, and investigators found no evidence that another person knowingly assisted the attack. Civil claims against MGM Resorts produced an approximately $800 million settlement. Federal regulations later addressed bump stocks, though subsequent litigation changed that regulatory landscape.
Victims and community
The victims were concertgoers, partners, parents, workers, veterans, and first responders from communities across North America. Bystanders transported strangers to hospitals and provided aid. The Las Vegas Community Healing Garden and annual remembrances foreground the 60 lives lost.
Prevention and aftermath
Recommendations included joint command, public-safety radio interoperability, mass-casualty transport coordination, venue surveillance, reunification systems, and responder wellness. Large events expanded emergency planning and medical capability.
