The archive uses original editorial artwork, public-domain historical material, licensed or Creative Commons material where available, and limited third-party documentary imagery used for identification, commentary, and historical reporting. Any fair-use assessment is specific to the image and context; it is not a blanket claim that third-party images are public domain.
Wikimedia Commons is a repository, not a single license. Reusers should visit the original file page and follow its author, license, attribution, and modification requirements. Government or law-enforcement origin likewise does not automatically place every image in the public domain.
