Legal accountability

Both perpetrators died at the school, so there was no criminal trial. Civil litigation and official reviews addressed school and police conduct; firearms suppliers also faced litigation. No court proceeding established a single institutional cause.

Victims and community

The dead were students Cassie Bernall, Steven Curnow, Corey DePooter, Kelly Fleming, Matthew Kechter, Daniel Mauser, Daniel Rohrbough, Dave Sanders, Rachel Scott, Isaiah Shoels, John Tomlin, Lauren Townsend, and Kyle Velasquez. Survivors, families, educators, and first responders carried lasting physical and psychological harm.

Prevention and aftermath

The attack accelerated rapid-entry active-shooter doctrine, interoperable command planning, school threat assessment, emergency notification, and anonymous reporting. Prevention guidance increasingly emphasizes behavior and communicated threats rather than profiling students by appearance or interests.
